I like the Blackwings but the design is too understated for me. It doesn’t look like $100k; just paying for that IYKYK feeling….and a monster of a V8.

The V models always have my head turning whenever I see them on the street. Perfect blend of performance and luxury.
Understated sure, but I like that. Like the M5's of old... |

I love the V series. I owned a V1 and just recently traded my V2. The Blackwing is awesome.
Who would have thought Cadillac would be producing one of, if not the last manual V8 sedan out there. |

It’s not even a comparison. The CT5V blackwing in a manual is a masterclass car.

I'm assuming that the poll is intended for the modern G8x and not this E9x forum (no M4s here!). I vote for Blackwing in either regard. Seems like a hell of a ride.

I don’t like to leave anything stock, and not overly fond of the S63 rod issue when boost is added. And something about a crammed LS just sounds amazing

Curious, OP chose comparison of G M3/M4 as opposed to G M5 to CT5 Blackwing...hummm?
Likely possible since G M5 is now quite a 'land yacht' ? ![]() Shockingly, now 'kinda' missing the ole Chris Bangle years ![]() ...at least 'sausage designs' remained true to the "Ultimate Driving Machine" mantra along with far more M car driver experience, 'purity'. > eXX = Exceptional [e39, e9X, e60 MT]My sense, BMW has lost its way especially regarding M cars with no better example than the electronic driver isolation and 'pork fat laden' G M5. Really considering this Caddy...it's likely 'last of kind' and actually what an M5 is and supposed to be:

Fake exhaust audio, lifeless steering, programmed shift action to replicate a DCT, etc. It also doesn’t really provide any sort of unique experience. The experience just feels so synthetic/characterless/homogenized. I enjoyed the G80 past 8/10s on the track as dynamically it’s very capable, but even then it doesn’t really feed much back to the driver. On the street I was basically just thinking of other things while I was driving, which is fine for a commuter car but not what I look for in a toy. However, I understand BMW is a publicly traded company and they need to chase sales volume vs. creating passion project cars. I’ve moved on to other brands to try and chase the soul BMWs used to have. Last edited by VR1; 09-19-2025 at 08:09 AM.. |

I’ve seen enough of these lately and would like to say I see it now, definitely not too understated. They look mean, I’d probably take one over an M3 if I found the right spec for me.
