BE bearings to BE bearings…

So check this out… Bought my 09 E92 earlier this year and just got around to getting my rod bearings done @ 85,000 mi. (Shout out to North Raleigh Performance!! Great price and one of the guys came in over the weekend to get my car done!!). Anyway, I'm not sure how often this happens but the previous owner had already had the rod bearings replaced. I wish I had known but how can you really know? And the dealership had no history on the car. But now I've got that peace of mind now.

Did they notice BE bolts when they popped the oil pan off? I would’ve put it back together at that point.

Why? You've tackled majority of the hard work, mine as well finish up the job they were paid for. Not to sound condescending but majority of the cost is tearing it down. You're right there and it's good info on the state of the motor

Do you still have the bolts they removed?
If you have a picture of the bolt heads we may be able to tell you if it was purchased pre-Jan 2020, or after.

Then if you can find a renewal or service on carfax around that time, you can get an rough estimate on how many miles it could have done.

Well lets put it this way- you now know they were on the car when you bought it. How many miles have you put on the car?

Did you put BE bolts back in? Cause those sure look like they are probably BE spec ARP.

Another example of BE Bearings coming out of a car looking new. It's too bad we don't have a better idea of the mileage outside of 5k.

Subscribed for the Sherlock Holmes side of this story - perhaps yet to come. I speculate all the Sleuths out there need is the VIN.

Looks like those are be arp bolts sold prior to Jan 2020.
If we assume they were installed prior to Jan 2020, do you have any milage reporting on the Carfax around that period?

That could give you a rough idea on minimum amount of miles travelled, if we assume they were installed prior to that date.

Still possible they were purchase and kept for months before installing, but a rough idea is better than nothing.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine.

We were told by the prior owner himself that he swapped to BE. Puts you in a weird spot because the only way to really know is to open her up.

Well long story short, he paid a shop to replace them and out came Perfect BE bearings.

I think 30k miles or so were put on the first set of BEs before the next set of shells went in.

Nice to know we were told the truth, sucks to have paid for what was an unnecessary job, but he sleeps better at night.

I've also heard the other side of that.

Owner was told they were done but had no proof. When I opened it up, stock bolts and worn out bearings. Did not look like they were ever touched including the motor mounts. So always better to be safe.
