1200 miles service done early?
I just hit around 800 miles on my 2008 M3 and now on start-up, the car is telling me to go in for service. I thought that this message would not occur until 1200 miles. So what should I do, go get the service now or wait until 1200 miles?

Same here. @ ~800mi, I received the notification.
Seems that 1200mi is approximate. For the purpose of measuring oil life, the computer probably counts engine revolutions, rather than actual distance traveled. -ag |

Take it in for service when the car says it needs it. My 2,000 Km service came up at 820Kms, and my 12,000 Km Service came up at 7,000. It's all condition based.

I think it does that so when the message comes up there is plenty of time to make an appointment and get it done before you get too far past 1200. Some dealers are booked up for a week or two. If the message didn't come up early, we would hear people complaining about planning a road trip over the weekend but they can't do the service until next week and now they can't go because it would be too far over 1200 by the time it went in for service blah blah blah.

I was under 1200mi as well (somewhere on the 1000 range I believe). They had no problem draining and checking the fluids out.
Just wait till you get that engine up to about 7800rpm.....

Okay! I'll get my service done by this week. I was also thinking about getting the 31.1 DCT update at the same time, but after reading the threads, I'm scared!

Okay, I just got back from the dealership, attempting to get my 1200 miles service done and I was refused. The dealership said that they MUST perform the DCT update now that it is an official recall. Read my full story here:
