275/35/18 V730's are on sale at Walmart right now for $211 a tire which is the cheapest I found. Just wanted to share the knowledge and am in no way affiliated with them.

I run 295/30/18 RE71RS's on square 10.5" Apex VS5RS wheels. I've also run 275/35/18 RE71RS's on the same wheels. I've never run the V730's but heard good things about longevity but a little slower than the RE71RS's. Do you have any experience with this comparison on the E9X platform? Trying to decide if the price savings is worth the likely hit in lap times... The price sure is tempting.

I just went from the kumhos in 275 on 10” rims to the Bridgestones in 285 on 11” rims. If you’re chasing laptimes don’t go to the kumhos, it’s a noticeable difference. But at half the cost in a non-competitive setting I don’t know that it’s worth it.

I will be sure to come back here to answer your questions. I will say that...

1. RE71's do not like heat & weight, I am instructing at Mid-Ohio August 1-3rd and expect it to be HOT, plus my M3 is 3430lbs with a full tank, plus I weigh 220lbs.

2. This is not a competitive event at all, so the way I look at it is that for $400 less I can get a tire that will manage the heat and weight better, last longer, and still allow me to have fun I might as well try.

Great track tire imo, not the fastest, but I finished in 1st place of our local time trial class with this tire. (against a field of over 15+ drivers/cars, so not a show up and podium field)

I am trying the RE71RS next, I am expecting them to be faster but not last as long as the V730s.

at almost ~$600 less than the price of the re71rs and they last longer, these are hard to beat imo for HPDE or even time trial competition.

V730s get faster to the point where the tires look like slicks then they become dead slow.

I just ordered a set! My wallet is sure feeling happy, but I'm wondering how happy I will feel after some slower lap times. I'm guessing I'll be more willing to explore different lines at the limit with less invested in tires. Should be fun and educational. Hopefully happiness homeostasis will be reached

slower than your 295/30/18 RE71RS setup on 10.5s.
But the 275/35/18 should probably feel sharper on 10.5s

Yep. I'm thinking this will be a fun set to experiment on exploring different lines. And at the price difference, that's at least +1 more track day

The speed of V730s does not fall off. I've been running them for the last 2 years and have used them for time attack competitions. I can get consistent lap times right until they start cording.

That being said, as others have pointed out, it is not the fastest tire. RE71 is noticeably faster, same with CR-S, A052, SC3/R, etc. But I can usually get 8-10 track events in on them, and in that regard I think they are king for the endurance 200tw category. In my eyes, they've completely replaced the NT01 (they're cheaper and faster).

They are not meant for the rain, and have little resistance to hydroplaning. Unless you intend on practicing car control, I don't recommend it. Other than that, if you want a budget friendly endurance tire that you can use for an entire season, the v730 is your friend.

They felt great, best tire i've had yet. But I have some 275 RE71rs that are going on next.

Previously had 295/30/18 Conti ECF, the 275 V730 is definitely faster and felt sharper.

Awesome to hear. Thanks for sharing and I think your impression of ECF vs V730 is what I would have expected based on other reviews. I'll be curious to hear what you think of RE71RS vs V730 when you get that impression. I'm happy to share my impression for that comparison too.

I spent two days (Friday, Sunday) at Waterford Hills Road Racing and my car was otherwise the same with Apex VS-5RS 18x10.5" ET22 square wheels, with the exception of tires. Data from Garmin Catalyst. The clubs and track conditions were different across the two days, so results are not easily comparable, but I thought I’d share my impressions here.

# Friday #
Tires: RE71RS 295/30/18 square. 4th track day on tires. Corded at end of day.
Conditions: Beautiful. Clear sky and sunny with max temp in low 70’s
Run Group: Advanced with few drivers (after rearrange post first session) and lots of clean laps later in the day.
Best Lap: 1:15.76
Optimal Lap: 1:15.19

# Sunday #
Tires: V730 275/35/18 square. 1st track day on tires. Look great at end of day.
Conditions: Rain in the morning, which dried up in afternoon and hotter with max temp in low 80’s. Incident on track day before with oil spill at T5 “big bend”
Run Group: Advanced with many more drivers and lots of lap traffic. Very few clean laps.
Best Lap: 1:17.74
Optimal Lap: 1:16.43

Overall tire impressions:
With the differences in conditions and run groups, it’s hard to directly compare lap times across the tires. Notably, on the few clean laps I got Sunday, I would always drive T5 off the line since it’s a high speed sweeper with a big wall on the outside and I just don’t want to risk anything happening there with the oil spill still visible from the previous day. I’ve seen cars go crunch there before. Catalyst data confirms I was >5MPH slower through there, on average, which results in slower max speed on back straight. So, tire impressions. First, the RE71RS’s truly are 200tw god tires. But, peak grip is in a pretty narrow window. They have peak grip towards the end of lap 1 and through just a few more laps. If you keep pushing, they get squirmy. In contrast, the V730’s felt much more stable throughout the session. I could push even towards the end of a session. Max grip is not at the level of the RE71RS but the feel is still nice and the loss of grip is progressive and the tires communicate this well both through feel and sound. Overall, I like the V730’s, just wish they were offered in 295/30/18 for a little more grip and the extra tolerance to heat. Hot pressure was another thing that was different across the tires. I usually start my RE71RS’s at around 28PSI cold, depending on track conditions and they get to 35PSI hot. The V730’s got to >37PSI hot when starting at the same cold pressure, so it seems they needed to be started a little lower. I made adjustments throughout the day and ended up at 35PSI hot, which felt good. Considering all the differences in conditions, I think the 275/35/18 V730 is probably ~1s slower than the 295/30/18 RE71RS on my car at this track. So, I likely won’t set any PBs with it, but I did have fun exploring different lines, the tires look great after one track day, and I even have a chunk of coin left over for more track time. Overall a win, I’d say. Thanks again for letting us know about the sale.
