Jakob66 E92 M3 Time Trial Build
That’s the car as of today. Best lap times so far at VIR 1.59.3 ; RA 1:31.1 ; WGI 2:01.6
The build started in 2014 as a 2013 DCT with 16k mls. Car was involved in front accident and the front frame was damaged. After a new front frame and time on a chassis fixture the car was in better dimensional condition than it came from the factory. Car fixed and in ‘like-new’ condition and bone stock after 2 months hard work. In my past I raced motorcycles and my company prepared & developed parts for German Touring car race series so it was just a matter of time when I would find my way to the next track, lol. In 2015 I started in HPDE. The following year in 2016 I started in TT3 with NASA (finished 2nd at WGI at the Nationals). I like TT as it has a calculable risk and it combines speed with ‘brains’ and it’s fun to race with very cool cars. The car's development started in 2016 and is ongoing all the way to 2018. ENGINE: As of today the engine is still stock, stock rev limits, MachtSchnell (heavily modified!) air intake and a BPM stage 2 tune. Engine cooling air flow upstream (through engine hood) due to closed engine bay. That development took quite some time! With larger oil cooler/radiator, stock DCT cooler and with fender & engine hood vents engine temps -even in hot +90F- are flat and oil temp never goes beyond 245F. Electric power steering, no AC compressor, no serpentine belt. I replace rod bearings yearly. Running Castrol 10W60 and change every other weekend (yes you heard right). That’s key as the long-chained 60W loses viscosity quickly. Proper warmup is super important, I do never rev the engine unless engine is at >200F engine oil. My engine is not burning oil. BW motor mounts. TRANSMISSION & Diff E240 DCT software , no water/oil intercooler anymore (as AC is gone). Never had too high transmission oil temps. However, my transmission doesn’t get the hot engine air flow. OEM differential had too much slip so I got Diffsonline race diff with BW diff cooler in trunk. Solid diff brackets. Diff works flawless. SUSPENSION: In 2015 I installed KW CS coils (perfect for street@track!). They work really well for mixed track/daily use. That move came together with removing all ‘rubber’ in the suspension. So I exchanged the differential and subframe mounts with Turner solid subframe mounts, BW race car control arm conversion front/rear at the same time. However, my car is no daily anymore and by the end of 2017 I switched to MCS 3-way with remote canister. Rear is non-coilover setup due to my fat 315/30 tires (which is needed). The MCS took me a long time to get used to it but I believe car has now more grip. Ground control race camber plates. Running extreme camber values front and rear. Spring rates are 900F/1100R. Due to my aero the rear spring rate is not high enough at high speeds so I’m working on a new rear lower control arm so I can go higher on spring rates and adjust spring rates via adjustable wheel leverage. It’s going to be a 2018 winter project. R&D sway bars (front and rear) modified (for much higher spring rates front and rear!). BRAKES: Stoptech ST60 fronts with Cobalt Friction XR1 brake pads and rear stock brake with XR2. Running Castrol SRF brake fluid. Here again, not cheap but the best I had so far. I’m brake bleeding every other weekend. If you want insane brake power that’s the choice! (though the pads are not cheap). We made the brake ducts in-house. We needed something solid that will last. EXHAUST: Catless with in-house built x-section and rear end. Due to the diffusor there’s no space for large mufflers. Mufflers are in-line underneath car in front of rear axle. As I’m at the very end of the TT3 10:0 Hp to weight ratio my target was to get max torque not necessarily max hp. Exhaust sounds insane. WHEELS AND TIRES: Fronts ARC8 Hoosier A7 in 295/30/18 . Rears with ARC7 A7 in 315/30/18 . There’s not much space left inside or outside of the wheels unless you change track-width which would change scrub radius which I didn’t want to do. AERO: Stock front fenders but extended with winglet tray to guide air around front wheels. Extended GT4 front splitter extended with hangers through bumper on front subframe. Completely closed engine undertray -full flat car length- to rear diffuser extending 1 foot beyond rear bumper. Several air dams -full car length- extending to rear diffuser. GT250 67” rear wing. Smaller E46 rear view mirrors. Many people talk about aero but to generate real measurable downforce is quite an undertaking. The front splitter, the undertray with its air dams and the rear diffuser is one system and each component depends on each other. If one element in this chain is not right it won’t work. Ride height It needs to be perfect to make all the above work. We spent many, many hours to find the right setup and then to actually measure downforce. Obviously we don’t have a wind tunnel so we had to come up with an alternative method. Measuring pressure deltas is not easy and sometimes misleading. We did it by measuring travel at given speeds and then use the known wheel spring rates to reverse calculate the forces. INTERIOR: From day one had the problem with helmet clearance. We came up with a super low profile bracket (laser cut) that enabled me to mount the Recaro Racer brackets directly to the floor. Around 1” reduced seat height. We further developed a very, very sturdy bolt-in harness bar that uses 6 points bolted to the chassis that requires zero welding, drilling and grinding. The carbon door cards complement the looks. Schroth 6-point belts, stripped interior, fire extinguisher system with 4 nozzles. In-house lightweight (not pretty lol) front dash with oil pressure, oil temperature , water temp, differential oil temp, suspension travel indicator (switchable to all sides), since 2018 AIM SOLO DL2 with Smarty Cam 2 and direct CAN bus connection with all available data channels. Weight balance! The car’s minimum weight with my dyno’ed average HP in TT3 is 3570lbs (with me). Cross weight L/R balance is 50.0%. Static front/rear 51%/49%. I had to add substantial weight in certain spots to get cross weight right. The result is a very balanced car that is easy to drive at its limits. The car is a constant ‘brain’ project and under development. We do install and sell all modifications listed! Enjoy!

beautiful build. if you're willing to sell a set of the front fender vents, i'll be a customer.
also, what exactly did you do to "seal" the engine bay? are you talking about the general oem design, or did you improve upon it some? did you do any sheet metal air redirecting to the hood vents? i ask because i was thinking about making an easily removable scoop that extends from the back of the fan shroud to the passenger side hood vents. i figure every little bit helps. might help more if the air is directed rather than just finds its was to the vents.

beautiful build jakob, I look forward to seeing more
By the way, it seems like you should be part of the Karbonius intake group buy. 6.5lb off the front of the car! https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1523882

That's a beautiful looking carbon part. However, I heavily modified my intake for more ram-air so it wouldn't work for me. Thanks!

can we see pics of your intake and underhood air management please?
also, the mirrors look like e36 mirrors with a plate over the gap... any more info on those? i don't mean to bug, but i have always been fascinated with the more serious track builds and i'm going to have a ton of questions. lol

Amazing build...
For those of us who track a civilian E9x (ie like the one you had in 2015) what would be your estimate for attainable track times at Watkins Glen? I mean, a car that is basically stock and on tires like Nitto-01. Cheers! |

It's Diffsonline Custom Performance Differential with 3 discs, custom angle.
...and I needed a diff cooler as I was burning the discs.

I only say this because I have a lot of seat time in e92m3(stock and modded) at WGI and have seen too many nasty accidents there by those who tried to set HPDE records. This track is a lot of fun but is also very unforgiving.

Congrats mate! Finally broke 2 min marker at VIR What was the secret sauce this time around? Suspension dialed in?
With that time at VIR, its a question of time at WGI. Excellent build! See you in October (VIR)? Lutfy |

Stock power and weight wise yes but with above mods in place too. Camber is the best mod on this car (bang for buck laptime wise). Stock car with camber plates and Hoosier R7/A7 possibly but with standard NT01/RA1 variety I'd be curious, but then I am a little conservative too. Lutfy |

Always nice to see creative builds!
How extensive is the gutting? When you say the car is 3570 with you in it, how much gas is in the car? Curious what the no-driver-no-fuel weight is. |
