Square setup on stock 220s?

Hey all!

I have a stock 2012 e93 with 19” polished 220s.
I never track the car, drive it moderately agressively here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I’m thinking about putting a square 255/35/19 setup on the stock wheels. Has anyone done this? Does it work? Would I need to go 265/30/19? If so will 265s fit on the front wheels?

I’ve read a bunch of comments but it always seems folks are changing wheels. Thanks!

You should pickup another pair of 220M 19x9.5et23 rear wheels. This way you can properly run 265/35-19 square tires. Why would you want to run a narrower 255/35-19 on the rear if you drive aggressively? I’d want nothing narrower than the stock 265/35-19 on the rear. 275 square setups are common track setups with good balance. A 265 square street setup would have similar balance and perform well in the mountains/twisties. A 255/35 square tire setup on 8.5”/9.5” staggered wheels would not perform as well as 255/35 or 265/35 square tires on 9.5” square wheels. An 8.5” wheel can’t provide proper support to a 255 or 265 tire.

It’s not so much about what I want but more curious. I had an opportunity to replace my tires with 255/35/19s for $500 installed and wondered if it would work and saving the $1000 would leave me happy.

Car has been a bit of a money pit and just trying to get to the next step.

There’s nothing preventing you from mounting 255 tires on 8.5” and 9.5” wide wheels. The front wheel will have the tire overhanging the wheel whereas the rear will have a stretched tire look. Both affect the tire’s performance in different ways so the 255 square isn’t the best setup for performance. If you want to save $1k, give it a try and if you don’t like it then switch it up. The good thing, as long as the tires aren’t AS tires, is you’ll be replacing them again after 20-25k miles.
