You asked for it, here it is: Valet 'Mode' Flash
A few customers asked me about being able to have a file to flash in to protect the cars interests. We all know that anyone else that drives our cars is not going to exercise the care and concern for it that we do. I can't tell you how many times I've seen technicians at the dealerships flogging cars dead cold, redlining them though every gear, and revving the engine to high RPM's when stopped to show off to their tech buddies.
Per your request - the valet mode flash has been designed with this in mind. I've been testing it for the last week to make sure that in every possible situation it delivers what it is supposed to. I'm happy to report that it does in every respect. Features: -4,500 RPM Static Rev Limit -62 Mph Top Speed limit (This can be adjusted to any speed) Cold start either on or off (I elected to keep it on because it makes the car louder, and if someone is driving it that isn't supposed to you will hear them) -Freestanding rev limit of 3,500 RPM. (I'm probably going to make this 2,000) Version two of the valet mode tune will have reduced power and throttle response. It will basically be demoted to a car to get to A to B without having much (if any) fun at all. Many of our customers have been very happy with the cold start rev limit reduction, which I think is a fantastic way to keep your engine from wearing unnecessarily when cold. Remember, the most wear is induced when the engine is cold, so always keep RPM's low and easy on the throttle. Here is a video of it in action: Flashing the car into this mode takes only five minutes. So I wouldn't suggest doing it every time you go out to dinner, but it is useful in a handful of cases. The 'valet' mode tune will be offered free of charge to our existing tuning customers with the cable. Email us at info@bpmsport.com and we will send you a link to the download. After having this in my car for a week, I finally flashed our Stage II Akra Specific tune back in. Even below 4,500 RPM, the cars response, and overall driving characteristics are dramatically better. It's so much more of a pleasure to drive again, not to mention having the rest of my RPM back The valet mode is based off of the stock calibration, so it doesn't have any of the performance or drivability/smoothness enhancements of our performance software. I'm open to suggestions for RPM Limit, Speed limit, etc... if anyone has any. I think the next revision will make the sport mode do absolutely nothing, or make the car even slower. That'll trick them! Thanks for reading! Mike |

I drove the car hard and hit the 4,500 limiter all the time. It's still a fast car but it's a completely different animal with this limit. This is 2,000 RPM lower than the stock limit when the car is completely cold. The 4,500 limit gets old fast, and I found it to be sufficient limit. This would also prevent any clutch dropping or launching as well with the lower freestanding limit. As I said I'm open to suggestions If someone requests that it be set at 2,000 RPM, I can do that too. And yeah... boost? |

Damn that's awesome!
BUT say I'm going out to dinner and know I need to valet. Do I have to drive like this to and from also?

I have a suggestion Mike.
Can the car be programmed to the speed limiter in CCC/CIC. This way one can limit the car to whatever speed ... it can be 65, 90, 120 etc. So switch off the gong for the speed limit and have a dynamic speed limiter. This will be a discreet function and the dealer stealer or the valet (or your girl friend) wouldn't have the first clue. When you get in the car switch off the speed limit warning, and now you have a normal ///3 for your driving pleasure. This is also a good function to have when driving in city limits so you don't exceed the speed accidentally. I can remember driving an A Class as a hire car during a work trip to UK a few years back, and you were able to use the left stalk to set whatever speed you want, and doesn't matter how much you try to flog the car, it will not go beyond that speed limit. I know you have already spent countless hours developing the valet mode. This is just an idea to eliminate flashing each time. I would love to hear your thoughts on my idea ...

Cool features but kind of useless if you can't switch maps. How can the vishnu and jb3 stuff have been doing map switching for years? Is it because their chips can do that and a flash cannot?
Either way kind of loses utility if you have to load a whole map and preplan this for each outing that involves a valet. I guess I am just not paranoid as I do not feel anyone can drive my car as hard and thrashing as I do as I live at 8400 rpms and hit 8400 atleast 10 times on every drive I make. So I consider a valet taking it easy on my car! |

You could just take your laptop and cable with you and flash it when you need it. No internet connection is required.

Mike,
Quick question, are all your tunes end-user loadable? Via a laptop and USB OBD cable yes? I came from a 335i and I really love the ease of the COBB. Everytime could be accomplished from the handheld device. I don't mind the laptop route though especially if it's user loadable. I always have a laptop on me so it's good. Really interested in your tunes. PM when you have time. -John

This is the reason that we're working on functionality via a button in the car. It's just that to do it currently, you would have to load it in via computer.
