Drove Skyline Drive on Saturday
On Saturday I was in VA and the weather was so nice I decided to take a little drive somewhere before heading home. I wasn't really familiar with the area but I did a search and saw that I was rather close to the northern end of Skyline Drive. I didn't intend to drive the whole thing but once I got there and was told it was $15, I decided to go for it. It was a very long day but I had an awesome time. The road was great, the weather was perfect and I was in an M3. Who could ask for anything more?

looking good!
I wish I had some more time to do skyline. I've owned the M3 for 2 years now, and I've only driven skyline once. I used to go all the time in my old car. Ain't that a kick in the nuts, when you work hard enough to buy a M3, you won't have time to drive it... BTW, your $15 park pass is also good for the Old Rag rock scramble. That's some fun stuff. https://www.google.com/search?q=old+...iw=916&bih=315 |

I went for the first time last week and was it a blast! Hopefully I'll be able to do the entire route this week

While Skyline Dr. certainly affords great scenery, I actually find the surrounding roads that don't require the park pass, e.g., 211, much more enjoyable from a driving perspective.

The trouble with Skyline Drive is the posted speed limits..where most areas you can only do 35mph. There's always park rangers ready to pounce on you. It hardly gives us the chance to rev our engine and have a ball.

I drove Skyline for the first time about 3 weekends ago with my wife. I had just exited a corner and hammered the M coming out of it. I was around 80 when a truck coming the opposite direction flashed his lights at me. Passed a ranger about 100 yards up the road in a well hidden spot. I got lucky....would've been going around 100 by that point. |
