Brake Energy Regeneration in US?
Hey everybody,
I watched the latest Motor Trend video about the new M3, which is posted in this forum. It is clearly stated that the BER will be an essential part of Efficiant Dynamics in Europe, but most likely, according to BMW, will not be offered in the United States. The system would most certainly decrese if not eliminate the gas guzzler tax buyers have to pay in the US, so why not offer it? Does anybody know why? Is it the price, the battery that may now pass in the US, not appealing to the US market, etc.?? What is it? |

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that you might be close to the truth on your first guess -- that the new battery needs to pass US requirements and that is an expensive process for BMW. Maybe they will offer it later on in the model cycle after the battery passes US tests.
