Newbie DCT question

Drove my newly acquired 2011 E90 DCT M3 for the first time today. Topped it off with fresh Shell 93 and just getting used to a few things.

Coming up the learning curve with the DCT. One quick question - I have programmed the M button like most people as far as DCT shift logic at 5, MDM, EDC at Norm, etc..

When I hit the M button - does that automatically change the DCT from Drive mode to Sequential (shift w paddles)? I hit the M button and pulled away from a light with about half throttle and it pretty much revved close to redline.

Also, is there a setting/config that tells the DCT to rapidly downshift with hard braking - I assume just keep the DCT at 5.

I think I will like to have the DCT logic do the shifting for me as it is probably faster.

Sorry to be so green - but literally just bought it and it was not from a BMW dealer.

Thanks

There are 11 DriveLogic settings: D1-5, and M1-6. Go to the menu and you can see that pushing the M button can be set to do fully-auto (D) or manual (M).

The higher DriveLogic numbers make it downshift more aggressively under braking (in D).

Do you have the owner's manual? It explains this pretty well, but I usually learn best through experimenting.

It's really not hard and you'll pick it up quick. Once you get used to the OEM DCT you'll want to upgrade to the GTS tune. Inexpensive mod and big improvement over the factory software. Congrats on the car... Enjoy!

Perfect - thanks! I have the car at work and am savoring some back roads on the way home - so figured I would steepen the learning curve by seeking the experts here.
Really pretty nice just driving it in Drive (D-5) mode in comfort - cruises along nice and sedae but Im pretty sure it ready my mind and drops down a gear before I actually push down the accelerator pedal.

Wow - what an engine! Car came with Premium Audio but I keep turning it off to hear the engine.

definitely look into getting the euro dct or gts dct flash...as others have said, inexpensive and great improvement....

If you're going to get a DCT flash, you may as well just get the GTS one. The Euro DCT stuff is not considerably different from ours, whereas the GTS one does shift even faster (it bumps everything up 1 notch, basically).

Here is a trick for you: if you are in D and want to go to the lowest gear possible, press the (-) level twice and hold it while going full on throttle.

Make sure you have a LOT of space in front of you as my head was nailed to the headrest when I did this on a highway doing 40...

Miss the DCT, but I am happy with my MT

Not quite...

To downshift quickly to the lowest possible gear pull and hold the left (-) paddle and floor the accelerator to engage the "kickdown" button. The DCT will downshift multiple gears all at once and you will launch forward. This can be done in either "D" or "S" modes.

Just semantics, but this is not a 335...

The modes are D1 to D5 and S1 to S6

Manual mode is called "Sequential" or S mode.

Need to ensure the newbe OP is put on the right track

But S6 is only available when DCT is off right?

When dsc is off.

But why not just shift yourself? That way its 100% when you want the car to.

I am as someone asked this question. I only tried "M" mode once and thought it only went in "S" mode. Guess I should have RTFM too. I just changed my but what settings are most using with out me needing to go search?

DSC must be off, yes, and that's how you engage launch control.

I do this on the freeway sometimes. Do you think it makes the car shift any quicker than just using DCT? I feel I am being a lot safer when I just stay in DCT and floor it.

Anyone know:
In stock form these cars redline at 8300 rpm in both DCT and in S-Mode?
When using launch control the redline remains 8300 rpm?

I'm also learning the nuances of envoking the "to die for" rev matching blips. Looks like DCT setting needs to be in 5 and in S mode - click down a few gears quick when slowing for a stop sign and it will give you a nice mini explosion.
