BMC filter=great sound!
So I am very very pleased with my BMC air filter install. Not expecting any power whatsoever and it feels every so lightly less "choked" at 8k rpms and above which makes sense since that is needing a lot of O2 at those speeds so a bit extra flow likely helps.
However the reason I did it was looking for more intake sound but did not want to install any other full intake system as I feel OEM is the best power of all of them Well I do not know about all the brands but the sound is ridiculous and much more "raw" ALmost has a metallic scream to it and just really makes it that tad bit more perfect than with paper. So worth it if you like intake noise. I prefer intake noise to exhaust so am in love with this. Makes sense why ferrari uses bmc for many OEM applications. It really compliments the sound of high revving screamers beautifully |

I'm also looking foward to change the filter. I'm glad you like it. Thanks for sharing. I have two questions:
Was the fitment good? Do you have a list or know where to get it or know for a fact the ferrari models that use BMC as OEM filters? Thanks! |

It is not used on every ferrari but for example the 360 CS used it and I believe the enzo used it. Not the common models.
Fit is perfect as long as you get the one made for 2010 plus cars since the design is different prior to that. The sound is awesome! Much more noticable than I had thought it would be |

I would not waste on the scoops as they do nothing for power OR sound where atleast the filter does improve sound. As has been discussed many times do not do a filter mod for power and only for sound. Similarly the scoops are worthless for power, especially with the intake designed with an air outlet on top so you cannot further pressurize the box like you can on other cars they design scoops for. I would save your money

Completely agree with you. The scoops will not increase pressure or create ram air effect, but I believe (and maybe I'm wrong), that will help in drcreasing air temperature. Obviously no major gains. Appreciate your advice, though.

Nobody has shown any evidence it lowers temperatures and do not know how it would. The oem setup already provides for a lot of incoming fresh air that flows through the system and out the top of the hood. Nothing else to really get any cooler as it is bringing in outside fresh air which is as cool as you get. |

This is what I think, and again I may be wrong. Scoops aid in directing the air into the intake and by doing that they may increase flow and quantity of air. Since air from the outside is colder than the temp under the hood, increasing the amount of cold air may decrease the temp of air getting into the engine. The m3's intake is superbly designed. Scoops will aid in directing air into the intake. I'm not going to bother to prove it with measurements.

Been a fan of BMC filters for quite some time. Run them in 3 of my vehicles. I typically buy and extra one/pair so I can swap in a clean one and prevent down time during the cleaning process.
I also have a good source for anyone that needs them. |

What's the source? What makes BMC better then the rest?

Can't really say that BMC is better than the rest, but they're a large brand so they have a lot of applications... especially for Euro vehicles. They usually maximize surface area as well compared to a few others.
Saw some independent testing of several filters for the E46 M3 specifically and the BMC out-flowed them all. In the E60 M5 for example, the surface area is much greater than the K&N. E60 M5 BMC: E60 M5 K&N: BMC is just consistently good across the board in my opinion. So if I order for an application I've not seen before, I have confidence that I won't be disappointed with what shows up. As with most pre oiled aftermarket filters, they come a little heavy on the oil, so I recommend giving them a rinse to get rid of the excess prior to installation... critical on cars that run MAF sensors. However, in my opinion it's still worth the rinse even for the E9X M3. No need to send excess oil down the charge pipe, into the IAT sensor, etc. |

We supply them, but we're not currently sponsoring the forum so I don't want to step on toes. There are likely vendors here that offer them, just don't know who.
I run them under lukewarm water for a minute or so. You don't want to strip off all the oil, you just want to get the excess off. Here's what the sink looked like after rinsing a pair of BMC's for a Cayenne S. Fairly critical on this vehicle as it uses dual MAF sensors. There was still plenty of oil left on the filters to catch debris. |

PYspeed.com has them
gonna order one today. I was going to get the Dinan intake but $1000 for a carbon tube is silly

Does anyone have the part number for the 2010+ or even better a picture?
I just bought one with 577/08 number, haven't installed it yet, but wondering if it fits Edit: I think I need 536/08 bummer Last edited by Superfly_M3; 03-18-2013 at 03:29 PM.. |

Part number is different from 2008 model to 2010 - again because of the installation points.

Its only difference is the install "peg" is different. Beyond me why they made two types but all the US ones after 2009 had the euro filter setup. I believe the 2007 and 2008 m3's had the charcoal filter to boot so when that was removed with an airfilter upgrade, the power was in the 10 plus range. Euro version never had charcoal so gains slightly less.
I agree BMC makes the valvetrain music sound dope! |
