DCT tunes that start in S mode
Looking for feedback if anyone is running a DCT tune that starts out in S as opposed to D. I have BPM stage II tune in my 2011 and I love the performance. However I *always* drive in S mode as I prefer to manually shift through gears. Stock DCT starts in S but as we know it lags, clunks, and takes forever to engage reverse. I understand it's a simple matter of bumping the stick twice to get into S with some of these DCT tunes but I'd rather not have to rethink how I drive the car after 12 years. Thanks all.

Don't think it exists. Clicking the paddles or using the gear selector while in D mode will bring it to S. If you've got your DCT set at 4 bars or higher you'd probably never notice.

Yeah, always thought it was interesting that the sportier tunes start in D. A little annoying at first but you get used to the double tap quickly. Certainly worth it for the improvements of a DCT tune.

I'm surprised none of the tuners have addressed this. Are all the DCT tunes tweaks of the same map (the GTS one)? I've probably used "D" 2 or 3 times in the past decade while eating a sandwich

My stock dct always used to start in S as soon as I put it in gear after startup but not I went to Alex Alpine GTS dct and it starts on D always. I actually thought it was weird that stock was going into S first as both of my F8x cars always start in D, one was a regular F82 the other is a stock F87 CS

for whatever it's worth:
I completely agree with you, I love my e92 m3 DCT and M button functionality much more than my F82 M4 DCT/M buttons. The e92 starts in "S" sport mode and only requires one press on the M button to turn on my desired settings. The M4 starts in "D" depressing mode and requires me to press the M button two times (on, then confirm). What a world we live in. For the E92, all of the European DCT software versions start in the "D" mode, whereas all of the factory USA cars start in the "S" mode. All F8x chassis worldwide start in "D" All of the aftermarket tuners are using the European GTS or CRT versions of the DCT software as a starting point, which is why they all start in "D" mode. Then you can get into the debate of whether tuners actually make any meaningful custom changes to the factory BMW GTS/CRT files or not. Some say a lot of tuners don't do anything to the tunes and charge you hundreds of dollars for them, when you can download and install the factory GTS/CRT tunes for FREE if you know how (there are threads on it). Some say tuners actually modify the Euro GTS/CRT tunes to make them better, but you almost never see what the actual changes/details are from most tuners. ![]()

Just do the free one if you can or know someone who can do it for you. There's been no data of any DCT tune from any tuner - or the original GTS/CRT ones - causing any sort of failure. So if there are differences made by individual tuners as claimed for safety etc, they are negligible. Mechanically, the DCT gearbox in the normal/GTS/CRT cars are the same anyway.
