Melted piston cylinder 3

During my s65 swap took a closer look at the motor we removed . Seems like cylinder 3 melted and disintegrated. Was picking pieces from the oil pan. Interesting enough the rod bolts and bearings are still intact . Cause ?? Lean condition ? Detonation? Bad gas ?? All this car had was a tune and a crank pulley. Went kaboom at 150km .

I just noticed, it's supercharged? Probably detonation then...could have been due to all kinds of stuff, bad gas, bad injector, etc.

Ohh, back to the starting point then lol, I got nothing. Maybe it was supercharged before and banged up good before you got the hot potato?

I don't know why a piston would let go like that. Could the oiling jet be clogged, no lube and the bore was destroyed and piston rocked like crazy? You should have heard that coming though.

Original owner was a friend , he was hard on the car (no less then most of us) but no charger nothing significant. He dyno?ed the car Stock then put a tune and crank pulley. There was no difference .

We need to open up the motor. See the other cylinders. Not sure it?s worth the $$$.

Good thing is I have lots of spare parts , new actuators , new coils etc . I?ll most likely Recondition the heads to sell them.

Bloody hell, thats a proper engine blow. Glad to hear you're alright, at 150kph anything could have happened.

Keep us posted on the solution towards a working car mate!

The car was travelling at approx 60-70mph , The mileage was 150,000km

I found a clean 2010 motor with updated flywheel , lots of clutch life left. This motor at 150,000km had little to no clutch left. The adjustment springs were at their furthest point.

The motor mounts were in terrible condition , just as crap as my e93 was at 70,000km.

The original motor has a tune, I?m thinking I should restore the ecu to Stock?

I think this S65 got serious internal motor vibrations with these motor mounts .And that is never good .

Whenever I see a completely grenaded motor like that generally the operator is not paying attention and noticing that something is going wrong and just keeps their foot down. That took a little while to build up that much heat and that cylinder would be way down on power before grenading.

You said no supercharger and I would also then ask, no nitrous (that can blow them up real quick before you can respond)? Anyway, good luck and best wishes with the new motor. Maybe this was an aggressive tune and you just got some bad gas, bit of a bummer.

The only time I've seen anything close to that is due to a bad tune. How long after the tune was done did the engine grenade?
