UCC EVO3 - First / Third / Fifth a little far?

I bought the UCC EVO3 like a year ago and had it sitting it the closet since then. The GF took off for the weekend so I had some time to kill, did the install just now.

Followed "bills" instructions from:

http://www.billswebspace.com/M3UUCEvo3DIY.htm

Everything went as planned. Great DIY BTW.

I noticed right away that the shifter feels ALOT more solid then before. If its design vs design, or just the fact that mine is now 8 years old, I cannot say for sure. Although the fact that BMW used a plastic bushing vs. UCC using the metal one probably has something to do with it.

The 1-2, 3-4 are alot closer.

But one thing I noticed right off the bat is that 1st / 3rd and 5th are a little far no? I pretty much have to extend my arm fully. I'm an average height guy for what its worth.

Yes, I double checked the orientation. Its correct.

Thats off bills DIY. But mine is exactly like that. Screw at the front.

Is it normal for 1st / 3rd and 5th to be quite a bit further "north" then in the OEM shifter?

Anyone else with an EVO3 care to comment?

I just installed mine a week ago and I've got the exact opposite issue!

I also checked the orientation and I've got it in correctly. 1st, 3rd, and 5th now look like neutral on the stock shifter, while 2nd, 4th, and 6th are further "south". Shifts fine, in fact the shifts are shorter and more crisp, but just seems not right. I find myself parking and leaving the car in 2nd gear just so I'm sure it's not in neutral. Did you also install the DSSR?

Only thing I can think of is that the DSSR is shorter than stock because its straight rather than curved. If I get annoyed enough I may put the stock selector rod back on and see how that changes the position of the even gears. Not thrilled about possibly redoing the work just to confirm I'm not crazy.

Simple answer in my case. Bastards sent me the wrong size DSSR. The replacement I just received is definitely longer so I suspect it will solve my problem once installed. Oh well. Lesson learned. If it doesn't look right, it's probably NOT right.

Maybe by Memorial Day weekend I'll get it swapped out.

Ah.... that would suck! At least you've got the right part now.... bummer you have to do the labour twice! :-(

Let us know how the install goes... and whether that fixes the problem...
