Sonoma Raceway Critique

Hey,

First time on R-Comps (NT-01), adequate brake pads (PFC 08) and traction control off (~10 minutes into sesh). I know I consistently missed APEXes, gotta work on that.

I noticed a little bit of front end shimmy into turn 11. Would Monoballs in the front thrust arms take that play away?

Thanks,

Can you describe the shimmy in more detail? Have you ever seen that on other tracks or other tires?

I have not noticed it on other tracks or before I put on the Nittos and PFC's. It feels like the front of the car wants to move a bit to the left and right during 10/10 braking. But no vibrations or anything is felt in the steering wheel. I just had the car aligned before the track day.

Thanks!

Probably a combination of much stickier/communicative tires and the alignment.

Did they dial-in some toe?

the thrust arm bearing has no downsides, so I'd do it regardless

I have the BW version on both cars and it works great

Oem suspension? Any tweaks to the car yet, or just what was mentioned?

Yeah, oem suspension. Maxed out the camber to -1.7 on passenger and -1.6 driver.

Who is the person in the passenger seat? An Uber passenger?

monoballs help with a little stability with hard braking, so yes, you'll feel them in places like turn 11.

i'd probably invest in some camber plates next, just to get a little more camber and save the tires.

i've only been to sonoma once, so i'm not an authority on the place by any means. my best time was a 1:57:117, and that was in one of the last sessions. one of the things i experimented with and found useful was at the top of turn "3a", getting to the apex early helped with having a straighter steering wheel while cresting the hill. seemed a bit smoother.

New nt01's have tread squirm under braking. That is likely the shimmy that you are describing. Wear them down a bit and that should go away.

Good to know. I feel like they took at least 2-3 sessions to feel better. They look barely worn, i wonder how many days I can get out of them.

This. You should have felt tread squirm on full tread RA-1s back in the day. Fun times...

Glad to hear this, as I am running NT-01 tires for the first time this year and was alarmed at the left-right shimmy under moderate to hard breaking. After 3 days the shimmy is gone....

thx! I'll try it out next time. I am going to be getting suspension next year. Probably Clubsports something with built in camber adjustment, so I will wait until next year to dial in more camber.
