Street / Track Car - Which one 6MT and which one DCT.
Lets say you can have 2 E9x M3s. 1 track car, 1 car has to stay stock.
Which one is manual and which one dct? Share why below. I've owned and still own an dct e92 m3 when some mods. I recently added a fairly stock E90 M3 6MT. I still love the DCT and won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. Being a manual guy, I always had a second manual car around (e39 m5, e46 m3, z3coupe, e93 328i and most recently a S62/6MT e38). I enjoy both, they both have their place. Thinking about it, My plans are to keep the E92 M3 modded as my weekend/track car. The E90 M3 6MT will stay stock and I will enjoy that on the street/back roads. I feel like the DCT is great at changing it's demeanor, docile/laid back around town/traffic. Ready to pounce at the push of the M button, or tear up the race track. If I had to choose 1 it will probably be the DCT. But I'd still want a manual car around, I just feel the DCT suits the S65 motor better. Hit your poll choice and leave some comments below. This is not a debate on which is better, it's just to share your opinions on both and where you feel each is better suited. I encourage everyone to experience both.

Personal preference - 6MT is funner to me (I do not have to DD in traffic though).
DCT is objectively faster and there is less chance of a money shift etc...

I just signed off of facebook because of all the arguing. M3post seemed like a calming place to go. And what do I see? The ongoing DCT vs. manual debate. LOL

This is not to debate which one is better. Just which one you'd track/mod and which one you'd keep stock/drive on the street if you could have both. |

I’ve both borrowed a dct e92 and currently own a 6spd. The dct is no brainer for the track, but a weekend car to the canyons or down PCH, stick shift is the way to go!!

If you're actually racing the car, then yeah, DCT all day long. If you're doing HPDEs or sticking to the street, get what you prefer.

DCT is faster. So if the actual requirement is maximum speed, then clearly DCT. So DCT for the race track.
6MT is, to me, FAR more enjoyable to drive. So 6MT for the street. And unlike SMGII in the E46, DCT seems to hold up just fine in heavy track use. So there's no durability incentive to go with 6MT.
