Anybody had a 3rd party warranty cover an S65 rod bearing failure?

Trying to cover my a** on the purchase of an 08 M3 and looking for a 3rd party warranty company I could trust to cover a potential rod bearing nightmare.

Please let me know if you have any experience/advice!

Thanks

I looked at Carchex (Assurant Warranty) and it appears they should/would according to my SA at the dealer. Subscribed...

How much coverage can you get on 6+ year old car?

Replacing the rod bearings will most likely be cheaper than an aftermarket warranty.

Not cheaper if you already threw a rod bearing and blew the engine.

Exactly. I'm not sure the newer, harder bearings give you the warning the earlier car gave with the slapping/knocking sound.

Well, you could also check out the air filter and see if it's sparkly.

Talk about a shitty Christmas miracle.

I'm thinking preventative.

Problem with preventative is, when do yo change them out?
There are plenty of newer cars with less than 20,000 miles on them that blew.

When I was looking at '08's Assurant (Carchex) was offering 3 year 100k "bumper to bumper" plans. The car I was looking at was an e92 with 49k miles. Price quote was somewhere around 2500.

Sounds all fine and dandy but I've yet to see (not saying it hasn't happened) someone on these boards talk about having one of this plans (3rd party) and making a successful trouble free claim.

I got a quote from Carchex as well and they offered pretty much the same thing 3 year 100k Titanium package on a 08 E90 M3 with 58k. However they quoted me $3200. hmmmmmm Other than that, the sales representative assured me that the Rod bearing failure would be covered. I take that with a grain of salt since they just want my business.

If you catch it in time that is.

The only strategy I can use is an oil analysis and wait to see if there will be a permanent solution down the road. Ask any 996 holdouts and they will tell you about the IMS solutions out there. Those that aren't willing to wait, will probably have to dump the car for fear.

I would think an aftermarket warranty company would just replace the entire engine, even if the crank wasn't damaged.

Carchex is does not offer warranty in CA

I have Easy Care but it was expired 2 weeks ago. Right before my warranty expired they have covered my DTC oil leak & replaced my right shock at BMW which cost about $3700.

i am planning to get their Primarycare for 3 years/ 30,000 miles for $2,500 with $250 deductible.
