Sounds about right to me. The sport with xpipe may be just a little quieter than the race, based on info from this board.
Connecting pipes are not required, but it will certainly make the install easier..plus you won't have to hack up your exhaust. (if you sell the car in the future, you can just throw the stock exhaust back on without having to reattach it, etc)
