The A3 is a GTI/Golf R underneath. If she's not hatch-phobic, go that route. Full disclosure, I have a manual GTI for carrying the 3 year old around.
BRZ is another good choice, but interior is a bit naff.
2er is heavier than I'd like, but coming from an E93, might not be as bad.
