Thanks for the correction. After all, said recall document was from 2013, I have not found anything more recent than that.

The (silent) recall that is going on now in Europe is really fresh (I think they started only in November 2016), and it definitely affects M3s. It looks as if it is not a certain build date, but selective VINs, such that you have to ask for your car. My car (10/2011) was not affected while a friend's one (06/2011) was.

It is probably correct that there is no formal recall in the U.S. - it is sometimes beyond me how BMW issues a recall in one area and not in the other, like with the current Takata airbag recall for M3s (which does not apply in Europe, fwiw). I only assumed that the U.S. was always preferred because of your more aggressive consumer protection, of which Dieselgate is a prominent example.
