If you're just putting in the gills & painted reflectors the bumper isn't removed. If you're filling the reflector holes & painting it, the bumper needs to be removed.
If I was you, I'd wait until I got back to do anything.
The painted reflectors just pop in & out... takes maybe 1-2 seconds. That easy.
