The S55 sounds rad. You just have to fiddle with it a bit. No it’s not a V8. Yes the S54 in everyone’s favorite Mcar sounded broken too, so did the S14 and the s38 sometimes.

Even crap V8’s sound good but most other engine configurations don't. It's rare to get a bent-6 to sound good, and I've owned I6 BMW's my whole driving life just about and still don't really think they sound "good" anywhere close to stock, just better than a 4. Don’t see what the big deal is almost every e9xm owner on here has fiddled with the exhaust to get more of the good noises. The s55 just needs to be treated differently. A big single exit would (and does on the one I heard on Teh InterWev) do wonders but muh quad tips

The best argument as to why BMW screwed up is, honestly, the C63 and GLC63 can fit a 4.0l hot-vee tt engine, so why cant' the F80/X3M/whatever? Would have saved a lot of development money and you get a yeti/chewbacca sound in ur tiny M car. Oh well.
