Now with that said... too bad I couldn't accumulate anything in that time... I remember looking at places to buy in 2011 but I never pulled the trigger.

Spot on. I know very little about stocks and investing outside of making sure my wife's 401k, my pension, and my SEP IRA are okay. However, I got lucky and bought a bunch of stock when everything turned to shit years go, bought a house in California when the bubble burst, etc. Live within your means. The next time the economy goes to shit, get ready to pounce.
