I found the source of the whine inside the cabin. Turns out, the bypass hose was the culprit. I used a mechanics stethoscope to trace the source of the noise. It was coming from the drivers side strut tower brace. I noticed that the bypass hose had been tie wrapped to the strut tower brace to keep it from moving around. I thought there was no way it could be from the hose, but I snipped the tie wrap and let the bypass hose drop. Much to my surprise, the noise went away. For anyone trying to trace a noise or squeak, I will say the mechanics stethoscope was well worth the $15 it cost to buy one. That noise was driving me mad!
