The Hp figures are rather close with a small edge to the M3.

You're spot on with the transmission statement. Faster shifts equal faster times. No getting around that.

Finally the weight differential is huge. The CTSV is 460lbs heavier than the M3. Getting off the line with that kind of weight and then pushing it down the track is that much harder.

One thing that isn't mentioned (except maybe in terms of appearance) is the drag coefficient. If I'm not mistaken the M3 is a couple tenths better than the CTSV in that area - thus improving straight line performance on the drag strip. Hopefully someone with more experience would comment on Drag Coefficient with regards to straight line racing like this.

The CTSV coupe has ugly proportions out back - the CTSV sedan looks much better. The M3 looks even better still.
