For altitude, I would buy a turbo car so you don’t lose as much performance in the thinner air. For practicality, at least fold down seats. Preferably 4 doors.
How about an X3 35i?
X5 35i also worth a look. E61 535xi is good for a wagon but getting old.
I drive my E90M3 in winter in NH, with snow wheels. Also drive my turbo E36M3 in winter with snow wheels. Definitely not as good as AWD and cannot go through as deep snow due to ground clearance but I get around.
