A 5mm spacer still leaves plenty of room on the 'lip' for the wheel to attach.
I run 3 and 5mm spacers frequently. If I need something larger than 5 I'll go to a 10mm which is hubcentric.
7mm, which I also have, doesn't give the wheel enough space to hold on to the lip
