I think this is one of those thing where your car will have an issue early on or it won't unless you drive like grandma.
I think due to the nature of the engine (hi hp, hi revving, specific oil req'ts), it will usually have some issue from the factory that afflicts some population of engines. For the most part, it's been pretty small among M cars.
