There performance difference between the e90 and e92 is negligible. I own an e90 and used an e92 at BMW's performance center.
If you're planning on having a kid, or if you have a kid, getting the sedan is a no brainer. Trust me, my friend who owns an e92 335xi is learning this the hard way. Much easier to put a car seat through a door, than between the front seat and the pillars.
As for insurance, I'm paying roughly $700 on my e90 M3. My friend is paying a lot more on his e92 335xi. I think a four door car is always cheaper to insure than a coupe.
