Like in the previous-generation car, power will be delivered to all four wheels via a turbocharged inline four cylinder engine, though bigger in displacement at 2.5 liters versus the original car's 2.3 liter four, according to Auto Express. While it's not known if the engine will also feature direct-injection, it'd be a step backwards, and the 280 horsepower rating also points to the technology's integration.

Performance should be similar to the last car, with 0-60mph acceleration in about six seconds, and a limited top speed of 155mph.

The hot 6 should also include more capable braking and suspension systems, and appropriate body styling to reflect its mission, including side skirts and a spoiler as well as larger wheels and intakes.

The car should be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October, with a production model coming in 2010, at least in European markets. The second generation car should also be offered in station wagon, coupe, convertible and hatchback versions of the faster, more powerful 6, in addition to the sedan body style of the previous car.
