Took my car to the dealership today. As far as losing gears my even gears, the service rep just called me and told me that there was a bulletin posted about that problem some time ago, and there's a software update available for my car ('08 e92) that should fix this problem. Strange that I never experienced the problem before though, but hopefully this is the solution.
No word on the limp mode problem/overheat, but I'm very tempted to get the DCT cooler upgrade done by Ricky (wwjd15a) just to avoid any overheating issues altogether!
