That has always been my understanding but my recent experience is that it takes longer for them to ship than it did a year or two ago, their shipping timing does not always correspond to times indicated on product pages and checkout, and the common carriers are experiencing more delays of their own once they pick up packages (which is not always clear since Amazon sends emails that items have shipped once a shipping label has been printed).

We order and re-order from Amazon frequently and there is no question things have slowed down for our deliveries. There are some items that pretty clearly note delivery time will be longer, and I can't complain about those. But when I place an order and the product page and order confirmation say it should arrive on Wednesday, and my prior experience with the same item had a consistent delivery time frame, I am unhappy when it doesn't arrive on that day in the absence of a weather delay. So I don't think this is all a customer perception issue as Amazon appears to be trying to spin it.
