Wow what shitty mechanics!
The paint peeling off is actually fairly common in these engines, as I have seen quite a few s65 engines with the paint deteriorating... I think its just age and oil exposure that corrodes it over time... Not sure about the chemical compound of it... Not really sure If it would be worth the trouble to recoat the inside, as removing every micro drop of oil residue from the cover is going to be a real bitch! Maybe easier to just buy new covers already painted and coated...
