Does anyone know if this update mandatory? I tried updating it and sat for over 10min and never got prompted whether it completed or not. I hope I didn't corrupt anything.

Be sure to have the latest app update, then consider updating the WIFI dongle.
Also on every ios update, erase the Carly app and upload it back (for free) on your phone.
