What's up with people still talking about these cars being collectible?

They won't ever be collector's items unless you own an E46 M3 GTR or maybe a CSL.

If we all agree to define collectible as keeping value or rising in value or bringing in strong returns at auction, the list of criteria pretty much goes as this.

The car must be highly limited in production run and/or difficult to find clean examples with low miles and no stupid modifications.

Car must have a serious race winning pedigree

The buyers in decades from now must be wealthy older guys who always dreamed of owning one and never got to and will at that time pay ridiculous prices for the sake of nostalgia.

This car will be pretty fun to drive in 20 years I'm sure, but it's not going to hold value the way the 993 turbo has held value.
