I'm wondering if stretching the leather is messing with the shape of the ring (twisting it), which is why it won't snap back into place. I think I'm going to try and velcro it into place instead of relying on the clips.

I didn't glue mine or fully snap it into place. It hasn't moved at all in 3 years and looks perfect. Don't overthink it.
