I used both dry ice and a heat gun. Both worked well, heat gun left a bit of residue. Dry ice works well on any flat surfaces that don't have any seam sealer below the panel. If you use dry ice, crush it in the bucket, then mix in isopropyl alcohol, then spread it out on the panel. Wait for it to cool, then start chipping at the panel.

For center console, I'm not sure about the E9x, on the E46 it's just a couple bolts and the whole thing comes out.
