Given your foresight and wisdom in using the wheel bolts to make sure the wheel didn't fall on the ground, we will assume that jackstands were used to make sure the car didn't fall and crush whatever parts of you were under it.

It definitely can take a bit of brute force to get a wheel loose sometimes. Some like to use a heavy rubber mallet. Others, like yourself, prefer to put the boots to it. Anti-seize is a good thing, but on the hubs only. Don't let it get anywhere near your bolts.
