Interesting that you are so " bemusted"..... As an audio/video van.. I saw both car audio and home audio go from the rotary volume knob to the digital buttons or sliders.. but you know what's most common today again? The rotary volume knob....

I currently have rotary knobs each side for adjusting temperature in my M3 - what are you driving if you don't? A Civic?
I agree totally - rotary knob for the function used 99% of the time. As for the rotary knob for selecting the air vents, no. Digital is great for that. Especially being able to turn each one on and off as desired, not just having a "4 option selection" on a rotary dial.
