I don't know if the 09 iDrive makes that much difference. I've tried it and it is a little more intuitive but the 08 already fixed most of the early iDrive issues of being slow etc. I think it is simply a matter of the economy completely killing demand for all cars and with enthusiast cars being only a small (and expensive) percentage, you are seeing the effects.
