No, I did it the traditional way (bottom). I suppose you could ask him to cut from the top but I didn't know better. If he does cut from the bottom, I suggest bringing a can of high temp paint and asking him to apply it to whole muffler. Anyhow, it took about 3 hours. Also, if he asks if you want the fiberglass hairball put back in, say yes. Otherwise, I heard the sound will be way too raspy (Per CallMeWonder). In terms of cabin sound, it's a little noticeable.
