For better or worse, the 991 is significantly more "integrated" than the 997.

I appreciated the '09 997 6-speed I had, but found it too "no compromise" to commute in. The 991 with PDK is far FAR more comfortable in any situation. But now that I have the 991, which feels like more of a grand touring car, I have been looking to purchase either a 997.2 GT3 or a '16 Boxster Spyder in order to own a sports car that can be reasonably stressed on a curvy public road. The 991 is far too capable, meaning that if I'm on a public street I don't run into car capability- I run into my own appetite for liability far sooner. I don't want to go to jail if it doesn't involve a story I want to tell my grand kids some day.

The M3 is a really good "beast of burden" for track time, auto-X, and the occasional weekend public road drive.
