To anyone who thinks the iPhone 4s battery (hardware) is a step down from the iPhone 4:

The iPhone 4S battery actually has a slightly greater capacity than the iPhone 4 battery.

It's the increased RAM of the 4S, along with the introduction of more background processes that is draining the battery more quickly.

ZJP provided a useful link, above, with good suggestions for preserving or extending battery life. Certainly turning off bluetooth is a big one. If you don't use bluetooth regularly, why not turn it off? Otherwise, the phone is constantly, unnecessarily searching for a device to connect to.

Another HUGE factor in battery life is screen brightness. If you don't need the screen to be at 100% brightness, turn it down to 50% or 60%, and you'll notice a big difference.

I've found that only in direct sunlight have I needed 100% brightness.
