Some people,
most people, will have a HUGE and over powering rush of adrenaline pump into their veins, mean while their imagination and intellect take strong effect. You'll, well at least I do in these situations, quickly begin thinking about who it could be, how dangerous they are, what they want, they might kill me, is it worth the risk of confronting them , am I too afraid to confront them, and so on. . .
For an average person under going most of those feelings, its pretty hard to just randomly run out and chase someone. Someone you have no idea how willing to kill you they are.
