The incident in which Paul Walker and Roger died was because they were speeding way above city limits and doing 90mph. Regardless of what tire they were using, an accident like that was bound to happen. While certainly speed was a factor and driving around an office park at 90MPH was obviously a bad idea, according to many (including the author of the article), the turn was one that even a mediocre car could handle with ease, and certainly Roger Rodas driving a Carrera GT. But on 9 year old tires, it was never going to work.

Either way, to the OP, 9 year old tires on a sports car should be a great big, flashing red no-no.
