It seems like this is a similar problem like on the S54 B32 Engines of the M3 E46.
I remember that my bearings had to be changed only 6 month after taking delivery of my first of 2 E46 M3. Reason was a product recall of M GmbH. I know there where a lot of bearing problems and blown engines of the S54. The owners of these cars here in Germany, who know about the problem, have their bearings revised frequently.
As far as I can recall there was also a coating problem of the bearings in the S54 case.
1. How many miles were on Pauls Engine when you pulled it out?
2. What would you specify as unusual high oil temp?
3. Did you develop different bearings?
