I had to remove the valve to get access to another hose below for replacement. I also ran into trouble with the rear hose removal but found that removing the valve from the bracket before removing the hose, as drrust mentions, is infinitely easier as you can turn it 90 degrees and get easy access to both of the tabs on the hose to release it. I would never again attempt it in the order stated in the original DIY above, else msan's results may be yours.
