I don't think Ford was aiming for BMW. I think the Ford Taurus SHO is to be Ford's "Halo" car for the Taurus line. As for the car itself, it's reasonably quick, gets better mileage than most cars with similar power, and I think it looks fine. Horsepower sells. big horsepower + good mileage is even better.
