In my experience the only thing the R888 does better than the RA1 is work as an intermediate rain tire, especially in drying conditions. The RA1 at full tread is pretty terrible if there's no water on the track or in the dry whereas the R888 at full tread seems to be much happier. Aside from that they're garbage. There are only a couple DOT tires I'd rather have in the dry than a 2/32 or 3/32" shaved RA1.
