iPhone 7 will charge a bit faster with the 12W iPad charging brick vs. the 5W it comes with. the iPhone 8 comes with fast charging, which needs the lightning to USB-C and 29W+ USB-C power adapter. the differences between the two isn't that great. I believe the iPhone 8 with the 29W brick reaches 50% 15 minutes faster than a phone powered by the 12W. It's up to you whether the prices differences are worth it. I already have a 12W adapter and dont feel the need to update it.
